CHPD looking to meet with residents to discuss Wawa traffic

The Cherry Hill Township Planning Board heard from hundreds of residents at two recent meetings on the proposed Wawa store at Haddonfield Road and Yale Avenue, the site of the former Toyota dealership, complete with retail, food services and a gas station.

After hours of testimony from professionals and residents at the meeting held earlier this month, the eight-member planning board unanimously approved a sign variance for Wawa, deeming the retailer apt to take up residence on Haddonfield Road.

Since Wawa received the go-ahead from the planning board, Director of Community Development Paul Stridick and Sgt. Michael Rann of the Cherry Hill Police Department are looking to meet with residents in the neighborhoods near the Wawa site to discuss how to find a balance between the 24-hour store and the neighbors who have to live near it, said township Director of Communications Jason Springer.

They hope to discuss speed limits and keeping Yale Avenue from becoming even more of a cut through to Haddonfield Road.

The planning board did approve Wawa with one variance and a number of conditions the applicant has to abide by.

On April 2, the board will formally approve the resolution at its meeting.

The Camden County Planning Board also has a say in the matter, but there has been no word yet as to when county officials will hear the plan, Springer said.
