Board of Education votes to move election
The Cherry Hill Board of Education voted unanimously to move the annual school election from April to November at its Feb. 14 meeting.
Board members whose terms were set to expire in April will now be up for election in November and board reorganization will occur during the first week of January.
When legislation was first passed and signed by Gov. Christie last month, the Cherry Hill School district sought input from the public via its website. According to the district, more than 50 residents shared their thoughts online, with about 80 percent saying they were in favor of the move to November to save money and stimulate voter turnout.
The April 2011 election cost the district $47,000. The cost of this year’s November election will be shared among various county and local entities.
The move to November also eliminates the public vote on proposed budgets that remain under the state-mandated 2 percent cap.
The preliminary budget will be presented at the Feb. 28 action meeting at 7 p.m. in the Malberg Administration Building. A public hearing is expected to be held in March.
