Burglar connected to Evesham Township arrested

Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk and Waterford Police Chief John Knoll reported a Hamilton man was arrested on charges connected to a slew of burglaries in Waterford and Evesham while he released on his own recognizance pending sentencing in another case.

Kevin Dunleavy, 47, was taken into custody in Mount Laurel on Jan. 19 after attempting to flee in a stolen vehicle from state police on Route 295.

Camden County sheriff’s officers executed searches at several locations associated with Dunleavy and recovered a stolen shotgun, jewelry, passports, wills and Social Security cards.

Dunleavy is charged with seven counts of burglary in Waterford and two Evesham. The burglaries took place between Dec. 16 and Jan. 17. The seven Waterford incidents took place in Atco at homes on Plymouth Drive, Jackson Road, Sapling Way, Gardens Avenue, Maryanna Drive and LeLache Avenue.

Dunleavy is charged with seven counts of Burglary and seven counts of theft by deception in Waterford.

He is also charged in connection with the two burglaries in Evesham, which took place on Raymond Avenue and Kettlerun Road.

Dunleavy was scheduled to be sentenced to prison on unrelated offenses he pleaded guilty to on Dec. 12.

At the time, he was being held on $35,000 bail. Yet despite the objections of the assistant prosecutor handling the case, who argued that Dunleavy’s lengthy history of criminal offenses made it appropriate to revoke his bail, a superior court judge granted the defense’s request for Dunleavy to be released on his own recognizance until his sentencing on Feb. 10.

The first burglary took place just four days after Dunleavy was ordered released. Since his arrest, Dunleavy has been held at the Camden County Jail on $50,000 bail. His sentencing for the earlier offenses is still scheduled for Feb. 10.
