Scholarship winners at Moorestown Friends School

The National Merit Scholarship Program recently recognized eight Moorestown Friends School seniors.

The following students were named National Merit Commended Scholars: Edward Barrett (Mount Laurel), Carolyn Chelius (Haddon Township), Katherine Churchill (Medford), Matthew Eckart (Hainesport), Karan Hiremath (Columbus), Katherine Sowa (Moorestown), Madison Taormina (Moorestown) and Emily Whitley (Moorestown). Commended Scholars are recognized for their exceptional academic promise. The Commended Scholars from MFS constitute over ten percent of its senior class.

The 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) served as an initial screen for more than 1.5 million entrants to the National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended Scholars represent the top three percent of the nation’s high school seniors.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Moorestown Friends School is a day school founded by the Religious Society of Friends (also known as Quakers) in 1785. Today the school enrolls 713 students from Preschool through Grade 12. Moorestown Friends School is a community dedicated to the pursuit of educational excellence for a diverse student body within an academically rigorous and balanced program emphasizing personal, ethical and spiritual growth.
