Suspect who caused lockdown apprehended

Prior to the regularly scheduled actions at the Haddonfield Commissioners meeting last night, Mayor Tish Colombi revealed that a burglary suspect who caused a Tier I lockdown in the school district was apprehended at the Westmont PATCO station later in the day.

The female suspect was observed coming out of a home near the Elizabeth Haddon Elementary School yesterday morning.

An officer contacted the district and let administration know of the ongoing pursuit and as a precaution the schools were locked for the 50 minute timeframe and nobody was allowed in or out of the facilities, Superintendent Richard Perry said. During the lockdown — which was held from 11:40 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — all activities and educational instruction continued as normal, he said.

“It was really just a precautionary measure,” Perry said.

The entire lockdown was brief and uneventful, he said.
