Hurricane Irene helps possible burglar escape in Medford

On Aug. 28 at 3:30 a.m., during the height of Hurricane Irene, the Medford Township Police observed an individual acting suspiciously by the front bay doors of the Speedy Gas, State Highway 70 and JonesĀ Road.

It appeared that the male was attempting to burglarize the gas station. As officers approached the individual he fled on a motorcycle east on State HighwayĀ 70.

Officers were able to locate the motorcycle on Forge Road in the Medford Mill development and chased the suspect on foot in the complex. The suspect fled from officers in the heavily wooded area to the rear of the complex. Due the weather conditions officers were unable to locate the individual.

The incident is under investigation.
