New Jersey utility to build pipeline to hospital

As part of an agreement with the New Jersey Department of Human Services and the Township of Winslow in Camden County, Voorhees-based New Jersey American Water has begun the installation of a two mile water main that will deliver more than 400,000 gallons of water daily to the Ancora Psychiatric Hospital.

New Jersey American Water work crews are installing the 12-inch, cement-lined, ductile iron water main along Route 73 at the intersection of Blue Anchor Road, then onto Central Avenue.

Portions of Central Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic during construction hours. The water main will continue from Central Avenue to Henry Street before connecting to the hospital water system.

“Working with the N.J. Department of Human Services and Winslow Township, we were able to find a solution to address the water supply needs of Ancora Psychiatric Hospital,” said John Bigelow, president of New Jersey American Water. “This is an example of how a collaborative, regional approach can address water, waste water, and environmental challenges.”

The construction crew is working Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local police are assisting with directing the alternate traffic patterns. All lanes of traffic will be open each afternoon when crews end their workday.

New Jersey American Water delivers more than 1.5 millions of gallons of water daily to Winslow Township from the company’s Delaware River Regional Water Treatment Plant in Delran. The new water main will connect to the township’s existing water infrastructure and service Ancora Psychiatric Hospital. The hospital will then retire their existing wells.
