Well that record didn’t last long

The final home meet of the season for Woodstream Swim team was held on Saturday, July 9. Though the Barracudas lost to Greenfields 339 to 180, it was a bittersweet meet as the team said good bye to six seniors in their swimouts.

Dan Bennett, the Burlington County Swimmer of the Year, will be headed to Leigh University to majoring in business and accounting on a swim scholarship. Alexandra Charbeneau, a holder of three individual Woodstream records, will attend James Madison University to study international business. Jamie Grant, a 12 year Barracuda, will attend Newman University in the fall majoring in elementary and special education. Allison Masoero, an active member of her church and a member of three separate school honor societies, will be matriculating at Virginia Tech as a math major in the fall. Melanie Sage, a four year varsity swimmer who helped to rebuild houses after Hurricane Katrina, will be studying architecture at Drexel University. Finally, Lucas Troncone will be attending Burlington County College in this September. After a dozen years of swimming, Lucas hopes to coach wrestling in the future.

The highlight of the meet for the Barracudas in the pool was the breaking of an individual team record. Danny Bennett broke his own record for the 15–18 boys 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:14.53, beating his own record of 2:15.38 that was set just last week.

Woodstream had five double winners on the day: Jamie Bowne, girls 11 to 12, 50 meter back (35.54) and 50 meter fly (32.71), Morgan Sage, girls 13 to 14, 100 meter individual medley (1:14.17) and 50 meter breaststroke (40.37); Alexandra Charbeneau, girls 15 to 18, 100 meter individual medley (1:12.43) and 50 meter back (34.76); Ryan Fanelli, boys 9 to 10, 25 meter backstroke (19.76) and 25 meter breaststroke (20.50); Danny Bennett, boys 15 to 18, 200 meter individual medley (2:15.38) and 100 meter breaststroke (1:11.40).

On Saturday, July 16, Woodstream will travel to Cherry Hill to take on the Erlton Gators in the fourth tri-county meet of the season.
