Pete Canale, a resident of Medford and member of the Medford Historical Society, was recently awarded the first of two service awards presented by the Country School Association of America (CSAA). Canale was recognized for his commitment to the Cross Keys School, the only remaining one-room schoolhouse in Medford.
This award is granted to candidates who have demonstrated a long-standing support of their local one-room school and have donated time and talent to maintaining the upkeep and promoting the use of the school.
The CSAA is a national association that brings a diverse group of individuals together including museum volunteers, teachers, staff, faculty and students, preservationists, historians, re-enactors and interested citizens, to exchange ideas and resources. The CSAA is for people who wish to preserve schools, create or maintain museums, promote living history programs, and allow children of all ages to experience schooling as it was many years ago.
