Voters approve K-8 budget, Lenape Regional not so lucky

By ROBERT LINNEHAN

The preliminary results are in. Evesham Township representatives are reporting that township voters have approved the 2011–2012 K-8 budget by a vote of 3,206 to 2,164.

Voters from Evesham also favored the Lenape Regional High School District budget by 2,798 to 2,155, but the overall budget was voted down according to district representatives. This is the second consecutive year it was defeated.

All results are preliminary and unofficial.

The K-8 $65.9 million budget includes a tax levy of about $50.8 million. Overall, next year’s levy will be less than $300,000 when compared to the tax levy of 2010–2011. However, because of an overall reduction to the township’s tax ratables, the average taxpayer could see their school tax bill increase by almost $40 next year.

The governing bodies of the Lenape Regional High School District will come together to decide on a new tax levy by May 19, according to representatives.

Joe Fisicarro was able to fend off newcomer Joanne Sanferraro to maintain his seat on the Lenape board of education. Fisicarro received 2,351 votes, as compared to Sanferraro’s 1,823.

As for the Evesham K-8 BOE, voters elected a new member to the board. Seven candidates ran for three spots. Newcomer David Silver was elected to take a seat on the BOE. He will join Sandy Student and Rosemary Bernardi on the board, also winners in the election.

Here are the K-8 candidate results:

David Silver — 2,138

Sandy Student — 2,076

Rosemary Bernardi — 1,978

JoAnne Harmon — 1,955

Kevin Stone — 1,607

Joy Curley — 1,601

Joseph Barbagiovanni — 1,345
