Who knew Voorhees Township was the epicenter for talented harp players in South Jersey? A local harp teacher has several students who won a competition held earlier on this month in the state. One of the students is a local Marlton musician.
Five local harp players, all students of Voorhees harp teacher Kathy DeAngelo, won first or placed second at the Irish music competition held in Parsippany, NJ in April. The musicians will soon travel to Ireland for the next stage of their competitive harp playing careers.
Catherine Ely of Haddon Township, Katherine Highet and Kerry White of Voorhees and Christopher Rodriguez all placed in the competition earlier this month. They are all students of teacher Kathy DeAngelo.
All of the talented musicians won scholarships to the Somerset Folk Harp Festival and earn the right to compete at the “All-Ireland” competition in mid-August in Cavan, Ireland.
