Get out and vote today

Voters will be flocking to the polls today, Wednesday, April 27 for the annual school board elections for the Evesham K-8 School District and the Lenape Regional High School District. Polls are open from 1 to 9 p.m.

Residents will vote on a school budget for each school district. Voters will decide the face of the Evesham K-8 School District’s $65.9 million budget, which includes a tax levy of about $50.8 million. Overall, next year’s levy will be less than $300,000 when compared to the tax levy of 2010–2011.

However, because of an overall reduction to the township’s tax ratables, the average taxpayer could see their school tax bill increase by almost $40 next year.

Seven candidates are running for three open, three-year seats on the district’s board of education.

Incumbents Sandy Student and Rosemary Bernardi registered to run in the April 27 elections. They are joined by candidates Joseph Barbagiovanni, Joy Curley, JoAnne Harmon, David J. Silver, and Kevin A. Stone. Three others registered to run in the election, but have dropped out.

Voters will also decide the fate of Evesham’s portion of the Lenape Regional High School District. The total 2011–2012 budget is $143,430,000, which represents a 3.64 percent increase from the current year.

Evesham Township residents — whose children typically attend Cherokee High School after graduating the K-8 district — will see a tax levy increase of a little more than 2-cents.

For the average assessed homeowner with a house valued at $288,200, this increase will mean about a $57.78 increase in school taxes.

Also, incumbent BOE candidate Joe Fisicaro will defend his Evesham seat on the board against candidate Joanne Sanferraro.
