You want fireworks? Here’s how you get them

Medford Celebrates, Inc. wants to bring back Medford’s famed Fourth of July celebration and fireworks display. First, they need to raise $40,000.

To help their cause, the foundation is hosting two fund-raisers during the upcoming Blast from the Past Car Show on Main Street. Traditionally, between 7,500 and 10,000 people flock to historic Main Street for this event, which is scheduled to kick off this year on May 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The first Medford Celebrates, Inc. event is a chili cook-off. This unsanctioned event will he held at the Township Gazebo on North Main Street. The cook-off will feature two categories — chefs and non-professionals. Car Show visitors will be able to purchase tickets to sample and vote on some of the area’s best chili.

For those who would like to participate in the chili cook-off, the fee is $25. For the application form, visit www.medfordcelebrates.org or call Nancy at 744–5448.

The Medford Celebrates Foundation is also offering a limited number of crafters the opportunity to participate in fund-raising by setting up booths to display and sell their wares. The cost is $50 per booth.

An informational letter and application form are also available at www.medfordcelebrates.org. Applications should be returned by May 2. E-mail Karen Finger at [email protected] or call 953–1996 with questions.

If you’d like to help bring back the Medford fireworks, visit the organization’s Web site at www.medfordcelebrates.org for a list of other fun events and fundraisers or to make a donation of any size.
