The budgetary difficulties at the county have now spread into America’s birthday, as officials announced today that the annual “Let Freedom Rock Fest” at Cooper River Park will not be held this year.
“In these economic times, it is a good opportunity for you and your family to attend the local celebrations in your community,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. “Look for the Camden County Summer Events Guide in your mailbox late May and check www.camdencounty.com for other events for your family to enjoy.”
In the past, the celebration included performances from legendary rock groups such as “Yes,” Peter Frampton, and “Foghat,” to name a few. The shows were always free to the public.
WMGK will hold the “Let Freedom Rock” concert featuring Yes and Styx at the Susquehanna Bank Center on the Camden waterfront. Tickets will be available for purchase. More information is available at www.wmgk.com.

“WMGK, Camden County and the Camden County Board of Freeholders are extremely proud of the amazing 4th of July concerts that we’ve been able to put on at Cooper River Park for the past ten years. It was always the intention of WMGK, our partners at Camden County and the Camden County Board of Freeholders to continue that tradition this year.
Unfortunately, Camden County has undergone severe budget cuts like every other municipality in the state. Due to this they aren’t able to partner with us to put on a free show this year. Our partners at Camden County and The Camden County Board of Freeholders are just as disappointed with this development as we are.”
