Broadway’s greatest farce, fast paced, witty, and one of the funniest musicals ever written is being performed this year by Camden Catholic High School in Cherry Hill.
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2,000 year old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the extremely infectious energy of classic vaudeville.
The result is a non-stop laughing evening in which the crafty and sly slave (Pseudolus) struggles to win the hand of a beautiful courtesan (Philia) for his young master (Hero), in exchange for his freedom. With a score by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, students are working with some of the best materials that Musical Theatre International has to offer. With the long history of great theatre that Camden Catholic has provided for this area, this will be a new one to add to the archives of excellence.
The show dates are March 25, 26, April 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m., and March 27 and April 3, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and please call 663-CCHS extension 34.
Friday April 1, will be designated as Alumni Night and all alumni are invited to join in the fun and meet old classmates while enjoying the show and a wine and cheese evening will follow.
