Mayor Bernie Platt joined the fourth-grade students at Clara Barton Elementary School to celebrate Read Across America Day Wednesday, March 2.
Mayor Platt read Dr. Seuss’s “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” to Ms. Nancy Paley’s fourth-grade class before leading the children in a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday,” to mark what would have been the late author’s 107th birthday.
Read Across America is a celebration of reading conducted annually on March 2 in school districts nationwide to honor the late Theodor Seuss Geisel (better known as Dr. Seuss), who was born on that date in 1904.
“This is one of my favorite events to attend every year,” Mayor Platt said. “Dr. Seuss helped to instill the joy of reading in millions of children — including my four children and my grandchildren, and I think celebrating his birthday will help bring that joy to new generations of boys and girls in Cherry Hill and around the country.”
