Monica Roeder, a freshman basketball player at Manhattan College, was named the MAAC rookie of the week on Monday, Feb. 14 her performance. This was Roeders second rookie of the week honor in a row and third overall in the season.
Roeder recently scored a career high 21-points for the Lady Jaspers in a 64–54 victory over Saint Peters on Saturday, Feb. 12. Roeder of course is a Marlton resident when not in college and graduated last year from Cherokee High School.
The freshman guard/forward was the first true freshman to start the season opener for the Lady Jaspers in three years.
Roeder can add the honor to her already growing recognition, as she was also recently the MAAC player of the week among all athletes in the conference.
John Olenowski, the second year head coach for the Lady Jaspers, said Roeder is a tremendous young athlete and a tremendous person.
“She’s having a wonderful year so far. We recruited Monica very hard out of high school, we knew she was a special player. She has lived up to all of our expectations this season. She has started since day one, has been a consistent scorer, a very good rebounder, and she’s become a very smart defensive player as well,” he said. “I think every player can improve from year to year and I think she’ll get better as each season goes on. She’s lived up to all our expectations so far.”
The all conference team will be named on Monday, as well as the rookie of the year honors. Visit our Web site for an update on Roeder being named to either of these teams.
