High winds fell tree

By ROBERT LINNEHAN

The wind proved too much for a large tree on the intersection of Warwick Road and Jefferson Avenue Friday afternoon as the large limbed tree was ripped from the ground.

Luckily for the home in the background the tree did not do much damage to the outside of the house, though it came fairly close to the house.

Camden County actually declared a high wind warning for the area on Friday afternoon warning of high winds throughout the county. The National Weather Service also issued a high wind warning for Friday that continued until midnight.

The weather service out of Mt. Laurel warned of locally damaging winds out of the west and northwest. The gusts could average between 2o to 30 miles per hour and could possibly hit highs of 60 miles per hour during the day.

A strong cold front moved across the region during the mid to late afternoon hours friday and resulted in the strong wind gusts. They continued into late friday evening and dropped off around midnight.

The weather advisory warned of widespread power outages. It also warned residents to watch for downed trees and tree limbs, which may damage structures and vehicles. The wind will most likely make driving difficult, according to the advisory, especially on bridges and overpasses.
