On February 19th, the Indian King Tavern Museum celebrated Presidents Day weekend, with a free open house and “party” for George Washington’s 279th birthday.
The response was tremendous with about 200 visitors showing up throughout the day. Unfortunately, some of the people who turned out to see acclaimed Washington re-enactor John Lopes were turned away because only 49 people are permitted by the fire code to be in the upstairs Assembly Room.
On behalf of the event’s sponsor, the Friends of the Indian King Tavern, we would like to apologize to the families who did not get to see the performance by the re-enactor. For the next open house — Betsy Ross on May 14th — the Indian King Tavern will have two seatings in the hopes of every visitor getting in.
For those of you who have never visited the Indian King Tavern, it is truly a historic gem along Kings Highway East. It’s like a mini-Williamsburg in our hometown. Please make time for a visit, and maybe we’ll see you there soon.
