Talking Through Walls, a film made by Spark Media, will be shown at a special community preview on Sunday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Congregation Ner Tamid, 1705 Haddonfield-Berlin Road, Cherry Hill. The program cost is $10 per person and will include refreshments.

The program will include a panel of film participants together with the film-makers and Rabbi Paul Bender of Congregation Ner Tamid, to dialogue with the audience about the issues raised in the film. It is an opportunity to gain understanding of very sensitive issues existing in our community.

In an increasingly polarized world, with people of different faiths suspicious or hateful of others due to ignorance or fear as a result of world events, the film details how leaders of different faith communities bridged the many divides between Muslim, Jew, Christian and Buddhist came together to combat anonymous flyers opposing the building of a mosque in Voorhees. The story of interfaith cooperation, of friendships, of understanding among the faiths and the warm acceptance of the mosque by its neighbors, is the subject of a documentary that was shown on PBS in 2009.

The members and rabbis of Congregations M’kor Shalom and Temple Emanuel are featured in the film as well as other leaders of the local Jewish community.

Fr. Joseph Wallace, Director for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs of the Diocese of Camden is also featured in the film.
