Evesham’s Fourth of July celebration is back this year to offer residents an entire day of family-friendly fun and a chance to honor those who have served the country.
“When I was running for office, one of the promises we made was to bring the community back and install the Fourth of July parade,” Mayor Randy Brown said. “Last year it was such an overwhelming success with nearly 10,000 people at the parade and 15,000 people at the fireworks. That showed how important community is to our residents. I’m proud we brought it back, and I’m proud that it was such a great success.”
This year’s event will begin rain or shine with the second annual Mayor’s Cup 5K and One Mile Fun Run and Walk at 8:30 a.m.
The 5K Run is a certified course on paved roads that begins and ends on Main Street and takes runners through the Arrowhead and Heritage Village neighborhoods.
The One Mile Fun Run and Walk will take off from the firehouse on Main Street take participants to Bettlewood Road and back to the firehouse.
Registration will be available the day of the event from 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. next to the firehouse on Main Street. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m., with an awards ceremony to follow at 9:30 a.m.
This year’s Fourth of July celebration will feature the children of Evesham with a bike parade beginning at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 12 and under are invited to decorate their bicycles to a patriotic theme and show them off during a parade along Main Street. Parents are invited to walk with their children in the parade.
All participants should meet at the parking lot at Cooper Avenue and Main Street before 10 a.m.
Residents are invited to watch the Evesham Township Fourth of July Parade along Main Street beginning at 11 a.m. This year’s event features live music and appearances from local community groups.
An evening celebration will begin at 5 p.m. when residents gather at Cherokee High School to enjoy patriotic entertainment, food from local vendors, and play areas for kids.
A support the troops rally with the Yellow Ribbon Club, will begin at 7 p.m. and will pay homage to the troops who have returned home from service.
“These men and women who have left their families for a year at a time, who have made sacrifices, the least we can do is celebrate their return when they come home,” Brown said.
The Fourth of July celebration will culminate at dusk with a fireworks display.
“Of everything that we’ve done in the two years that I’ve been mayor, what I am most proud of is our Fourth of July parade and our Fourth of July day,” Brown said.
