Survey results are in

By AUBRIE GEORGE | The Marlton Telegram

A year after the Evesham K-8 school district implemented an online survey to find out what district parents think of their children’s schools, the results are in, and district administrators like what they see.

Of the 466 people who completed the survey, most were satisfied with the district’s academic and extra-curricular programs. The district’s curriculum, math and language arts programs and its teachers were the schools’ strengths, according to parents’ answers for two open-ended questions on the survey.

“We are pleased that our parents recognize the expertise and quality of our staff.” Superintendent of Schools Pat Lucas said.

While 26 parents identified the math program as a strength, 53 parents thought it was an area that needed improvement. Though the language arts program was lauded by some, 62 parents wanted to see change in “language arts components.”

Parents also wanted increased communication from the district.

The survey was recommended by the Board of Education’s Public Relations Committee, Lucas said.

About 14 percent of the district’s 3,334 families responded to the survey, according to the district. A smaller number of people — about 8.3 percent — responded to the survey’s open-ended questions.

Now that the data has been compiled and analyzed, it will be used to help the district consider future educational needs, Lucas said. The district also plans to discuss the information at future parent workshops.

“Periodically, the district will conduct surveys when we feel they are needed,” Lucas said. “We do not conduct them on an annual basis. The last survey was conducted several years ago. Surveys are one of many different assessment tools that we use in the district.”
