Council held a public hearing on the 2009 municipal budget, but did not vote on it because officials were scheduled to go before the the state in order to have CAP waivers from 2008 renewed.
If the state does not reapprove the full waiver from last year, the township could be left with a $2.6 million problem that would result in cuts under this year’s budget.
Township Manager Tom Czerniecki said officials have strategized contingency plans if the state does not re-approve the full waiver from 2008.
This year’s $32.4 million budget is up 1.17 percent over last year. The tax rate is increasing by 1.2 cents, resulting in a $5.53 increase in municipal taxes for taxpayers in the average assessed home.
Czerniecki said, with the waivers, the 2009 budget falls well under the state’s laws and that the township has a good case for getting the state’s approval. He said his concern was Evesham’s application getting lost in the shuffle due to the growing number of waiver applications from other local municipalities.
The budget was introduced last week by resolution so a public hearing could be held. Council will vote on the budget after officials go before the state for waiver approval. Officials were scheduled to go before the state last week.
