• Township taps deferral: Looking to keep budget costs down, the township will utilize the recently approved Pension Deferral Bill, saving about $1.7 million this year. Officials said the deferral would help stabilize the tax rate for this budget and several to come.
• Citizen crime-fighters: The Cherry Hill Police Department reached out to the community, helping to improve communication between neighborhoods and the police. The department is hoping to organize several smaller meetings throughout the summer.
• Glimmers of hope?: South Jersey Realtors are beginning to have glimpses of optimism about the housing market. Realtors say a rush of homes coming onto the market, and an $8,000 first-time homebuyer tax credit make this a good time to buy.
• Justices brush aside Home Rule Doctrine (Mayor’s Message): Cherry Hill should have the right to provide for the safety of residents, by establishing buffer zones to protect children from sexual offenders under the Home Rule Doctrine.
